Mail.Ru Group offers own search engine for Android devices
MOSCOW, Apr 18 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet giant Mail.Ru Group has filed an application to the local unit of Google to add its search engine to the list of those available to Android-device users, Mail.Ru Group said on Tuesday in a press release.
“We’re glad that Android users will have an opportunity to choose themselves a search engine. Moreover, we plan to address manufacturers of Android smartphones and offer them to preinstall the Mail.Ru search,” the company’s Vice President Vladimir Gabriyelyan said.
On Monday, the Federal Antimonopoly Service and Google signed an amicable agreement, under which the U.S. company will not demand exclusive preinstallation of its applications on Android devices in Russia.
Google will create a special window of search engine choice for smartphone users. Interested search operators can ask the U.S. company during 60 days to discuss terms and conditions of being added to the window in 2018.
